Why we do it
Throughout childhood, regardless of what our family was going through individually or collectively, be it heartbreak or joy, (as is to be expected there was plenty of both); my mom had one simple and unbreakable rule… Supper time was family time. Every evening, we filed into the kitchen in dribs and drabs to share, and often help prepare, a meal together. Don’t be fooled, these weren’t always particularly peaceful gatherings; they were filled with siblings shamelessly taunting one another, an almost unbelievable amount of spilled liquid, and robust arguments on what percentage of the plated veggies should be consumed, all amidst failed attempts by the attending adults to find out how school or work was. Supper-time chaos aside, I will forever be grateful for these evening meals together, as they left me with a deep understanding of the value of connectedness and ignited my love for cooking.
Connection with your community, and to the food you eat
We are mindful of the way in which food is grown and raised, the distance it travels to get to your plate, and the packaging used in the process, and we have taken great care to partner with like-minded suppliers. Wherever possible, we do our best to source main ingredients from the greater Garden Route area and support the truly exceptional small businesses and suppliers within the area. We do not promise organic vegetables or 100% free range meat, but we do promise that we know where our ingredients come from, how they are grown and raised, and how they get to your plate. Our recipes are created by experienced local chefs who are inspired by seasonal ingredients and focus on meals which are nutrient dense and packed with freshness and flavour.
